India, the second largest smartphone market after China overtook the United States and moved to the second position in the third quarter (Q3) of 2017 with a growth rate of 23 percent compared to last year. the India market is capitalized by top five smartphone manufacturers which includes the likes of Samsung, Xiaomi, Lenovo, Vivo, and Oppo in the entry level and mid-range segment and nearly counts at a total of 75 percent of shipments.

There’s alot of competition between smartphone manufacturing company with launch of new devices every now and then in a bid to out-perform each other and offer valuable devices under the price segment of Rs. 10,000.

To simplify the decision of buying devices for our readers, we have compiled a list of the best devices currently available in the market under the price segment of Rs. 10,000. we have shortlisted the devices on the following key aspects which a user should look into before buying a new device :

  • Display : The term “bada hai toh behtar hai” sounds very interesting on paper but in reality its tough to manage and hold device close to 6-inches in hands. we think a smartphone used as daily driver should be the standard display size which ranges between 5-inches to 5.7-inches.
  • Battery : The other key aspect of smartphone is obviously its battery, A-lot of mid-ranger devices now-a-days are packed with 3,000 mAh of battery capacity which easily lasts for day. there are some OEMs which manufacturers devices which actually offers a massive 5,000 mAh of battery capacity and easily lasts for two day of use.
  • RAM and Storage and memory : In the given price segment, the smartphone manufacturer offers device which are packed with a minimum 2GB or 3GB of RAM size coupled with 16GB or 32GB of on-board storage.
  • Camera : To be honest, Most of the smartphones take great pictures but when you compare it with higher end devices they will lack some features.
  • Operating system: The latest Android version “Android 8.0 Oreo is already out so for opting for devices which runs on Android Oreo out-of-the box or devices which runs on Android 7.1 ougat update and are eligible to receive the latest android update in near future is always a safe bet.

Redmi Y1

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturing company launched the Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite smartphones from its portfolio of the newly announced ‘Y’ series which is targeted at the youth on November 2. the highlight feature of both the device is its 16-megapixel front facing selfie camera with LED selfie light.

On the optics front, the device comes 16-megapixel front facing selfie shooter along with the LED selfie-light and Beautify 3.0 algorithm which enhanced selfies. the device also sports 13-megapixel camera with F/2.0 aperture, PDAF and Dual-LED flash.

The device measures at 153 x 76.2 x 7.7 mm and weights at 153 grams.

HMD Global officially launched the next generation of Nokia smartphone powered by latest and pure version of Android operating system at a launch event held in New Delhi on June 13.  the company introduced their new line of smartphone’s with the budget friendly Nokia 3Nokia 5 and Mid-Ranger Nokia 6 smartphone in the country.

The Nokia 3 is entry level smartphone and is powered by latest and pure version of Android operating system.  the smartphone is 4G VoLTE enabled and comes with Dual-SIM support which is a key factor for the Indian  market share. it carry forward the same classic design of Nokia Mobiles and is crafted beautifully in sculpted poly-carbonate back in a solid-feeling aluminium frame.

Panasonic India announced the Eluga Ray 700 smartphone along with the Eluga Ray 500 in India on September 19. the device runs on stock Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box and is priced at Rs. 9,999.

HMD Global announced the entry-level Nokia 2 smartphone globally in a launch event held in India on November 26. the device is available in the country via both offline and online stores starting at a price of Rs. 6,999. the device is available in Pewter / Black, Pewter / White, Copper / Black colour options. The highlight feature of the Nokia 2 is its massive battery backup of 4,100 mAh which the company claims will last for 2 days. the device sports a premium design and is made with with poly-carbonate body and 6000 Series Aluminium frame.

The Redmi 5 sports a 5.9-inch HD+ (2160 x 1080 p) bezel-less ‘FullVision’ display with 18:9 aspect ratio along with a pixel density of 403 ppi. it is powered by a 2.0 GHz Snapdragon 625 processor paired with Adreno 506 GPU. the device is available in 3GB RAM + 32GB storage option and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant.  the device runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat update and is backed by a 4,000 mAh battery. the device also sports a rear facing fingerprint sensor.

Editors Note : The Redmi Note 4 is Xiaomi’s best selling device in the country. unfortunately, it missed out from our list because of the launch of Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus which comes with newer hardware and latest Android update.
