The Mukesh Ambani Led Reliance Jio announced JioPhone, the company’s 4G enabled feature phone at the Reliance Annual General Meeting back in July last year. the device is packed with voice assistant which helps user to make calls, send messages, browse, launch camera and open JioTV, JioCinema, JioMusic and other apps.
Reliance’s JioPhone, touted as “India Ka Smartphone” successfully emerged capturing the Indian market share in the feature phone segment has added yet another feather to its cap. the company today has announced the availability of the Facebook app designed especially for the JioPhone which runs on Kai operating system. the app will be available from the app store available in JioPhone starting from tomorrow, February 14th.
Commenting on the launch, Akash Ambani, Chief of Strategy & Director, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, stated, “As promised, JioPhone will be home to the world’s leading applications, starting with Facebook. Jio, the world’s largest mobile data network, is built to empower every Indian with the power of data and JioPhone is an integral part of this Jio movement,”
According to the company, the JioPhone Facebook app will show notifications, videos, and support to view external links. it is optimised to use the cursor functionality available on JioPhone.
In a press statement, Francisco Varela, Vice President of Mobile Partnerships, Facebook said, “We are excited about our partnership with Jio and the opportunity to provide the best possible Facebook experience for millions of people using JioPhone. Working with partners like Jio, we want to make sure everyone, everywhere has the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of being connected,”
• The JioPhone will always have free voice calls. From August 15, the JioPhone will come with free unlimited data.
• The JioPhone has been created by Indian engineers for an Indian audience.
• The JioPhone is 4G VoLTE enabled, supports all indian languages, can responds to voice commands and comes pre-loaded Jio apps.
The JioPhone sports 2.4-inch QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) Display and is powered by Dual Core processor coupled with 512MB RAM. it is packed with 4GB of on-board storage and supports storage expansion up-to 128GB via MicroSD card support.
The device sports a 2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front facing camera. the device runs on KaiOS (you can read more about it here) which is design exclusively for feature phones and is backed by a 2,000 mAh battery which the company claims offers talktime up-to 12 hours and a standby time up-to 15 days.
The JioPhone is packed with supports for 22 Indian regional languages which includes – Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri , Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. it is also packed with voice assistant which will help you to make calls, send messages, browse, launch camera and open JioTV, JioCinema, JioMusic and other apps. as mentioned earlier the best part of the JioPhone is projecting your screen on Television and enjoy watching the content on big screen.
On the connectivity, the option includes Single SIM (Nano SIM), 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1 and USB 2.0.
The company was reportedly in talk with Facebook owned WhatsApp to brings its Messenger app Previously Google had announced a version of its Google voice assistant for the JioPhone, though it has yet to roll out. The Google Assistant for JioPhone was announced in December 2017 at the Google for India event. Earlier leaks and reports have also claimed that WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, will also have a version for the JioPhone.
The company earlier made headlines when Google announced a special version of its Google Voice assistant app for the JioPhone users last year in December 2017.
