Nokia Signed MoU with Airtel and BSNL for Bringing 5G networks in India

Earlier this year, we reported you that Nokia is coming back to what it does the best that is making smartphone. the Finnish smartphone manufacturer announced its come back in smartphone market at Mobile World Congress, 2017 held in Barcelona by introducing The NOKIA 6, Nokia 5, Nokia 3 and the revamped version of Nokia 3310

Nokia also invested heavily in new technologies like the Internet of Things, 5G and cloud around the World and as a part of this the company has now signed a MoU with Airtel and BSNL for transforming existing networks to 5G in India. by doing so, the company is aiming to provide extreme high-speed wireless broadband with ultra-low-latency, and the ability to support the future network demands of connected devices associated with the Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Cities.
 

 
Sanjay Malik, head of India market at Nokia, told ET “It is more of a preparatory phase for getting into 5G. the commercial launch of 5G technology is likely to take place around 2019-2020 globally. Thoughts behind these MoUs would be to introduce 5G here, and what are the steps required for the same, besides identifying applications to define the target segment, which will lead to a complete 5G strategy for telcos,”. he further stated that, “Nokia already supplies 4G equipment for Airtel’s network in nine circles – Gujarat, Bihar, UP East, Mumbai, MP, West Bengal, Odisha, Punjab and Kerala.” Malik added that BSNL is currently working on setting up the foundation for 5G. The Indian government is reportedly planning to auction spectrum in bands over 3,000 MHz.

Amit Marwah, head, End-to-End Sales Solutioning, India Market at Nokia, termed it as a step in the right direction, adding that 3.5 GHz has been globally adopted so far for the first set of 5G. he further added that today, India is sitting on par with any other place in the world in terms of technology, and we want to leverage that opportunity here,”
 

 
The company is now creating an experience centre in its research and development cell located in Bengaluru for studying to try and discover stakeholder requirements for 5G services in India.
