Motorola Starts Rolling Android 8.1 Oreo Update for Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus

Lenovo owned Motorola has started rolling out Android 8.1 Oreo update for the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphones. the update is rolled out in phases and is available currently for Moto G5 Plus users in India and Brazil. while, the update for Moto G5 is currently rolled out for users only in Mexico region.

Abraham Lincoln once quoted, ‘I’m a slow walker, but I never walk back.’ Guess, Motorola has taken this too seriously.


The announcement was made in Lenovo official consumer help forums by a Senior Moto Agent who goes by the name Tom said, “Hello everyone, I know many of you have been eagerly awaiting Oreo for your Moto G5 Plus and Moto G5. I’m happy to say that we’ve started rolling out the Oreo update in phases for the Moto G5 Plus in India and Brazil and the Moto G5 in Mexico. Please be patient as not all devices in India, Brazil, and Mexico will get the update immediately. Other regions are still pending and will get the update in the future.”

The Android 8.1 Oreo update brings feature such as Adaptive icons, Re-designed Settings Menu, Picture in Picture (PiP) mode, Autofill APIs, Adaptive icons, New Multitasking features, Notification Dots, Android Instant apps, Google Play Protect, Smart Text Selection, Improved data saver, battery features, Bluetooth improvements, along with a bunch of bug fixes and under-the-hood improvements. you can also read more about it here.
Lenovo owned Motorola officially announced the dual SIM Moto G5 and G5 Plus on February 26, 2017 at Mobile World Congress, 2017. the device features 5-inch FHD display, and 5.2-inch FHD display respectively with up to 4GB RAM, running on Android 7.0 Nougat update. you can read the device full specifications below.

Although, it’s a good news for both Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus users, the same can’t be said about Moto G5S users which is still waiting for its turn. However, the Moto G5S Plus has already tasted the Android 8.1 Oreo update earlier this year, when it was release in mid of May, 2018.

In a separate report the company has also announced Moto G6 Plus, its most anticipated budget offering will launch in India on September 10th, 2018. The company has earlier launched the mid-ranger Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play at a launch event held in New Delhi, India on June 4th, 2018 and has also release list of eligible devices getting Android 9.0 Pie update.
