Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has today launched its latest flagship offering the ‘Xiaomi Mi 8‘,  along with Mi 8SE, and Mi Band 3 at the company’s annual product launch event held in China. the highlight feature of the device is that it is powered by an Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Chipset, a Dual 12-megapixel rear camera setup, infrared face unlock, and a 20-megapixel selfie shooter. the company has also announced a premium variant of the device dubbed as ‘Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition‘ which includes top end features such as 3D Face Recognition Technology, In-Display Fingerprint sensor and a Transparent back as mentioned in the picture below.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pricing & Availability

The Xiaomi Mi 8 is priced at CNY 2,699 (approx Rs. 28,400) for the 6GB RAM/ 64GB on-board storage variant, CNY 2,999 (approx Rs. 31,500) for the 6GB RAM/ 128GB on-board storage variant and and CNY 3,299 (approx Rs. 34,700) for the 6GB RAM/ 256GB on-board storage variant and is available in White, Gold, Light Blue, and Black colour options. coming to the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition‘ it is priced at CNY 3,699 (approx Rs. 38,900) for 8GB RAM and 128GB inbuilt storage variant. the device is already available for pre-booking starting from Today and will go on sale starting from 5th of June.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Specifications

The Xiaomi Mi 8 sports a glass back with an unique water drop arc design, four-curved glass body packed into a 7 series aluminum frame. the device bears a 6.21-inch (2248 × 1080p) Full HD+ 18:7:9 AMOLED display with an ‘iPhone X’ like notch, a screen-to-body ratio of 88.5-percent, 600 nits brightness, with DCI-P3 color gamut and support for Always On display. it is powered by an 64-bit Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform clocked at 2.8GHz and paired with 6GB/8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and Adreno 630 GPU. the device is available in 64GB/128GB/256GB (UFS 2.1) storage option and runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo update and is expected to grab MIUI 10 in near future.

On the optics front, The device sports a dual rear camera setup assemble vertically which is a combination of a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 primary sensor with 26mm wide-angle lens, f/1.8 aperture, 1.4µm pixel size, 4-axis OIS, Optical zoom, 4K video recording, dual-tone LED flash and another 12-megapixel Samsung S5K3M3 secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size, and 2X zoom. the device also support dual pixel autofocus, AI portraits, AI scene detection, and video detection.

On the front, there’s an a 20-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1.8-micron pixels, AI portrait selfies, beautify algorithm and IR Face Unlock. whereas, the ‘Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition’ comes with exclusive features such as 3D Face unlock and the company’s take on Apple’s “Animoji 3D avatar” dubbed as Mi Meng which captures upto 52 facial muscle movements and will imitate your expressions and voice.

The device includes a rear facing fingerprint sensor and is juiced by an 3,400 mAh battery, whereas the ‘Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition’ comes with in-display pressure sensitive fingerprint sensor and is juiced by a smaller 3,000 mAh capacity. both, the variants are shipped with 18W Quick Charge 3.0 charger, but supports Quick Charge 4.0+ Fast charging.

Connectivity option includes Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac dual-band (2×2 MU-MIMO ), Bluetooth 5.0, Dual-frequency (L1+L5) GPS/GLONASS/Beidou, NFC, and USB Type-C. it on-boards accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, digital compass, gyroscope, infrared, and a proximity sensor. the Xiaomi Mi 8 measures at 154.9×74.8×7.6 mm, and weights at 175 grams, whereas ‘Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition’ measures at 154.9×74.8×7.6 mm, and weights at 177 grams.
