HTC Corporation, the Taiwanese smartphone maker has today launched the company’s latest flagship offering the HTC U12+ — the device is successor to the last year’s HTC U11+ and carry forwards the “squeezable edge” technology. however, this time the company has gone one step further and has replaced all the physical buttons such as volume rocker and power button with new pressure-sensitive buttons.
To quickly recall, the HTC U11+ was the company’s first offering with Full-Vision Display with an screen-to-body ratio of 78 percent along with a taller 18:9 aspect ratio. it was an upgraded version of the company’s flagship device HTC U11 which was launched last year.
HTC U12+ specifications
The HTC U12+ sports a 3D glass body with thin bezels which is stated to be 2 mm narrower than HTC U11.
it comes with an upgraded Edge Sense interface called as Edge Sense 2.0 which works with squeeze, tap, and hold gestures. you can squeeze the edge of the handset to capture photos, launch voice assistants, or use the Edge Launcher. it comes with IP68 rating for water and dust resistant.
The device bears 6-inch (2880 x 1440p) Quad HD+ Super LCD 6 display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and supports HDR10, sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamut. it is powered by the latest Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform paired with 6GB of RAM and Adreno 630 GPU. the device comes with 64GB/128GB on-board storage and supports storage expansion up-to 2TB via MicroSD card. the device runs on HTC Sense UI based on Android 8.0 Oreo update and is fueled by an 3,500mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging which allows you to charge the device from 0 to 50-percent in just 35 minutes. it comes with rear facing fingerprint sensor.
On the optics front, the device sports a rear dual camera setup placed horizontally which is a combination of 12-megapixel HTC UltraPixel 4 primary sensor with 1.4μm pixel size, f/1.75 aperture, dual LED flash, PDAF, Laser autofocus, OIS and a 16-megapixel (secondary sensor) telephoto lens with 1.0μm pixel size, f/2.6 aperture, 4k at 60 fps, 240 fps slo-mo at 1080p.
On the front, there’s also a dual camera setup which consists of dual 8-megapixel sensor with 84-degree field-of-view, 1.12μm pixel size, f/2.0 aperture Real-time bokeh effects, AR stickers.
The device also comes with HTC USonic earbuds which comes with Active Noise Cancellation, HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi edition stereo speaker system which features a woofer and tweeter separation design which the company touts to produce unprecedented power and clarity. it also comes with Hi-Res audio certification.
The liquid glass surface design which was available first in HTC U11 is crafted to impress using Optical Spectrum Hybrid Deposition By layering highly-refractive precious minerals across the phone’s back cover which creates stunningly vivid new colors that transforms light with every movement you make. the device will be available in Ceramic Black, Amazing Silver, and Translucent Black colours options.
Connectivity option includes Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4 and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C. it measures at 156.6×73.9×8.7-9.7 mm and weights at 188 grams. The HTC U12+ is available in three colour variants – the Ceramic Black, variants comes with regular matte black finish, the Flame Red colour variant comes with company’s Liquid Surface design which shows a gradient of colours as light hits on it, and the Translucent Blue colour options which allows you to slightly see the hardware components available inside the device from behind.
Coming to the pricing, The HTC U12+ is priced at $799 (approx Rs. 54,600) for the 64GB storage variant and $849 (approx Rs. 58,000) for the 128GB storage variant, it is expected to go on sale starting from mid-june in the United States region. whereas, in United Kingdom the 64GB storage variant is priced at GBP 699 and is expected to go on sale in late June.
