Honor Play Special Edition With Laser Engraved Back, 4D Gaming Experience Launched in China

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor is on a streak releasing new devices back-to-back, the company has just launched Honor 9N in India and has just announced its latest gaming device Honor Play in a new Special Edition variant which comes with laser-engraved lines on the back, and red accents surrounding the dual rear camera setup and fingerprint scanner. it is also said to feature an improved AI Camera algorithm which offers up-to five kinds of portrait lighting effects for both, rear and front cameras.

The highlight feature of the Honor Play Special Edition besides the gaming experience is its 6.3-inch Full HD+ 19:5:9 display with a ‘iPhone X’ like notch, and screen-to-body ratio of 89-percent. the device comes out-of-box with NPU and GPU Turbo graphics processing acceleration technology which offers smoother and faster gaming experience by increasing graphic processing efficiency on the device.

Honor Play Special Edition price

The Honor Play Special Edition is priced at CNY 2,499 (approx $367 | ₹25,200) and will go on sale in China via Jingdong, Tmall and other platforms starting from August 1st, 2018 in Enchanting Red and Magic Night Black color options.


To quickly recall, The Honor Play was announced along side Honor (i (2018) at a launch event held in China  on June 6th, 2018. the device offers an 7.1 channel 3D Histen audio and 4D gaming experience with real-time recognition of the game-play which vibrates the device to intelligently matching up-to 30 different senses promising more realistic game play experience.

Honor Play Special Edition specifications

The Honor Play Special Edition features identical specifications with the original Honor Play and bears a 6.3-inch (2340 x 1080p) Full HD+ LCD display with an aspect ratio of 19:5:9, 85-percent NTSC color gamut and 2.5D curved glass. the device is powered by an Octa-Core Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 970 (4 x 2.4 GHz A73+ 4 x 1.8 GHz A53) 10nm processor paired with an i7 co-processor, Mali-G72 MP12 GPU, and a in-built (neural processor unit) NPU. the device comes with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and supports expandable memory up to 256GB via microSD. it runs on Emotion UI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo update and is juiced by a 3,750 mAh battery with fast charging support.


In the camera department, the device sports a dual rear camera setup with a 16-megapixel primary sensor with Artificial Intelligence features, F/2.2 aperture, PDAF,  & LED flash along with a 2-megapixel secondary sensor with F/2.4 aperture which offers depth-of-view for portrait shots. on the front, there’s another 16-megapixel camera with F/2.0 aperture.


Connectivity option includes Hybrid Dual SIM (nano + nano / microSD), Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, NFC, 3.5mm audio jack, and USB Type-C. it also on-boards accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor and a Fingerprint sensor (at the back). the device measures at 157.91 × 74.27 × 7.84 mm and weights at 176 grams.
