Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus Launched in China – Here’s everything you should know

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturing company announced the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus at an launch event held in Beijing, China on December 7. the highlight feature of both the devices are their 18:9 ‘FullVision’ display aspect ratio along with metal uni-body. Both the smartphones are available in Black, Gold, Light Blue, and Rose Gold colour options.

 

Redmi 5 Specification

The Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch HD (720 x 1440 p) bezel-less display with an 18:9 aspect ratio along with a pixel density of 282 ppi. it is powered by a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 450 processor paired with Adreno 506 GPU. the device is available in 2GB RAM + 16GB storage option and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant.  the device runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat update and is backed by a 3,300 mAh battery. the device also sports a rear facing fingerprint sensor.

The device sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with PDAF, 1.25μm pixel size, F/2.2 aperture, and flash. the camera also features mode including  HDR, Panorama mode, Burst mode, and Face recognition mode. the device also sports a 5-megapixel front facing selfie camera with soft selfie flash.

On the connectivity front, the option includes 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2,  Wi-FI 802.11a/b/g/n, 3.5mm audio jack and Micro-USB. the device on-boards sensors including accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. the device measures at 151.8 x 72.8 x 7.7 mm, and weights 157 grams.

Redmi 5 Plus Specs

The Redmi 5 Plus sports a 5.9-inch HD+ (2160 x 1080 p) bezel-less ‘FullVision’ display with 18:9 aspect ratio along with a pixel density of 403 ppi. it is powered by a 2.0 GHz Snapdragon 625 processor paired with Adreno 506 GPU. the device is available in 3GB RAM + 32GB storage option and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant.  the device runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat update and is backed by a 4,000 mAh battery. the device also sports a rear facing fingerprint sensor.

Coming to the pricing, the Redmi 5 is priced at CNY 799 (roughly Rs. 7,800) for the 2GB RAM/16GB storage variant and CNY 899 (roughly Rs. 8,800) for the 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant. the elder sibling Redmi 5 Plus is priced at CNY 999 (roughly Rs. 9.700) for the 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant and CNY 1,299 (roughly Rs. 12,700) for the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant.
