After months of anticipation, speculation and endless leaks HMD Global, the Finnish company who owns the license to use Nokia’s brand name on phones and tablets today finally raised the curtain from the most energetic, impressive and mighty Nokia branded flagship smartphone, ‘Nokia 8’ powered by Android operating system at an launch event in London.

The Nokia 8 sports a aluminium unibody built after under going a rigorous 40-stage process of machining, anodizing and polishing to maintain its distinctive and flawless design. it comes with splash proof rating of IP54 and features a 5.3-inch IPS Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) 2K polarized display with Pixel Density of 554 PPI, 700 nits of brightness, Nokia‘s trademark Glace Screen, 2.5D curved glass and is protected by sculpted Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top. under-the-hood, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform (4x cores clocked @ 2.5GHz Qualcomm Kryo + 4x cores clocked @ 1.8GHz Kryo) which is engineered to deliver exceptionally longer battery life and is built with a full-length copper cooling pipe with graphite shield to dissipate system heat across the full body of the device. the powerhouse CPU is paired with Adreno 540 GPU for improved and superior graphics performance and 4GB LPPDDR4X of RAM to handle all Multi-tasking on the go.
The Nokia 8 runs on the latest and purest form of Android operating system, Android 7.1.1 Nougat update out-of-the box and will be one of the first few devices to grab the upcoming Android O update (whenever it is available) with guaranteed monthly security updates. it is packed with 64GB of internal storage and also supports storage expansion up-to 256GB via MicroSD card support along with UFS 2.1 – the device is backed by a non-removable 3,090 mAh Battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0.
The Nokia 8 is also the first ever phone to feature Nokia OZO spatial 360° audio built in to its core. the technology emphasize the right sounds while reducing ambient sounds or background noise. it is also capable of capturing 4K videos.
On the optics front, the device features a 13-megapixel dual image-fusion rear camera, both colour and monochrome sensors with ZEISS optics, 1.12um pixels, optical image stabilization, 76.9 degree-view, F/2.0 aperture, (PDAF) Phase Detection AutoFocus, IR range finder and Dual Tone Flash.
On the front, there’s also an wide-angle 13-megapixel front facing selfie shooter with ZEISS optics, (PDAF) Phase Detection AutoFocus, 1.12um pixels, F/2.0 aperture, 78.4 degree-view, and Display flash.
On the connectivity front, the option includes Hybrid Dual SIM (1 nano-SIM slot + 1 nano-SIM or 1 MicroSD card slot), 4G LTE (LTE Cat. 9, 3CA, 450Mbps DL/50Mbps UL), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (MIMO), Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/AGPS, NFC, 3.5mm Audio Jack, 3-mics, USB Type C, USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5GBPS) – it also on-boards sensor including Ambient light sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, E-compass, Gyroscope, Fingerprint Sensor, Hall sensor, and Barometer.
The Nokia 8 is available in Gloss Blue, Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, Steel, and Polished Copper Colour Variant. it measures at 151.5 x 73.7 x 7.9 mm.
Coming to the pricing and availability, The Nokia 8 is expected to go on sale in selected markets from September and is expected to price at € 599 in the European markets. currently, there are no reports about its pricing in United States whereas, some reports states that the device will priced at Rs 39,999 in India to compete with the flagship killer OnePlus 5.
Editors Note – The Gloss Blue colour variant comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, while the other remaining colour variants comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of mass storage.
